This isn’t good—a new study says one in five Americans ignore their finances. Javelin strategy and research found 19% of Americans say they don’t check their finances at all. That means they don’t look at their accounts on bank websites, use personal finance software, or anything like that. And javelin found that those of us who *do* check our finances regularly, using either the bank’s website, or our own software program, are doing it *less often*.
It’s not too hard to figure out why—few people are eager to confront their retirement or bank balances when they know they’re *low*. Of course, that’s not a logical thing to do, when that’s exactly the time you *need* to keep a close eye on your money. So if you’re in this group—it’s time to shape up. There are some great *free* budgeting and finance websites out there. Mint-dot-com is one of them, if you’re looking for a way to track your spending, and meet savings goals. You plug in your account information, and it tracks everything for you. Now if you aren’t comfortable linking up your accounts to a budgeting site, you may want to try a site like budget tracker-dot-com. It lets you enter your data manually. Whatever you use, in this case, folks, ignorance is *not* bliss. Better to face up to whatever money problems you might have, and start the work of fixing them.
Emery FCU edit: another GREAT budgeting and finance website has been developed by Emery Members, Budget Sketch. Check it out for FREE at www.budgetsketch.com.
